UPSA student dies in shocking electric fence tragedy at residential home

Shock and grief have gripped a family following the death of a 20-year-old university student in an apparent electrocution incident inside his residence.

Buer Barlertey, a student of the University of Professional Studies, UPSA, died after reportedly coming into contact with an electrified section of a wall within his home. The source of the current is believed to be a neighbouring property’s electric fence, which had been left switched on.

Preliminary accounts suggest the fence, installed as a security measure, transmitted electricity to a shared or adjoining structure, inadvertently turning part of the wall into a live surface. The incident is said to have occurred in the late afternoon.

Buer Barlertey was the only child of Lena Tamakloe, an Education Officer based in Madina. His death has left his family devastated, with relatives describing the loss as profound and difficult to process.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have raised concerns about the safety and regulation of electric fencing in residential areas. Questions are being asked about installation standards, maintenance practices, and whether adequate safeguards are in place to prevent accidental contact.

Authorities are yet to provide a detailed account of the incident or indicate whether any formal investigation has been launched. It remains unclear what legal implications may arise as a result.

Family members have confirmed that Buer Barlertey will be laid in state tomorrow ahead of burial arrangements.

The case has prompted renewed calls for stricter oversight and public awareness regarding the use of electric security systems, particularly in densely populated communities.
