The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has directed Aschal Investment Limited, the contractor working on the 37-kilometre Wa–Bulenga Road, to immediately return to site and complete the project.
The minister warned that government would not tolerate delays in road projects that have already been awarded, particularly where contractors fail to mobilise to site and deliver on their contractual commitments.
Mr Agbodza issued the directive during an inspection of the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road, where he expressed concern over the contractor’s poor performance and failure to return to site for more than a year.
The contract for the project was awarded in 2024.
He instructed the contractor to resume work immediately and take steps to ensure that the project is completed within the agreed timeframe.
The minister also raised concerns about the quality of some of the work already executed, warning that sections of the road risk failing if corrective measures are not taken.
“Tell the contractor to come back to site immediately and remedy all those things. The thing is already failing. It is not rocket science, and you don’t have to be an engineer to know that what he has done will fail in no time. So call him back to site to address the issue immediately.”
Mr Agbodza stressed that the government would not accept substandard work on roads being executed with public funds.
“We have no appetite for substandard work,” he said.
The minister directed the relevant authorities to engage the contractor and ensure that remedial works are undertaken promptly, while urging all parties involved in the project to adhere to the required standards and timelines.
