The newly inducted Lay President of Conference of The Methodist Church Ghana, Bro Alfred Sakyi, has outlined key priorities for his three-year tenure, including youth development, children’s ministry, spiritual growth and the revival of dormant members.
Speaking to the press after his induction on October 10, 2026, Bro Alfred Sakyi said his administration would focus on supporting the church’s leadership to advance its mission and build on the achievements of his predecessors.
He is the 10th Lay President of Conference, with his three-year tenure beginning on October 1, 2026, and ending on September 30, 2029.
Bro Alfred Sakyi explained that the Lay President is one of the three principal executives of The Methodist Church Ghana, alongside the Presiding Bishop and the Administrative Bishop, and plays a role in supporting the governance and administration of the church.
He noted that the church, with more than 190 years of history, had established itself as a household name in Ghana through its contributions to education, healthcare and other social services.
He stressed the importance of collaboration among the church’s leadership, noting that his vision would align with that of the Presiding Bishop to ensure the effective implementation of the church’s agenda.
For the 2026/2027 Connexional Year, Bro Sakyi identified four key areas of focus: developing young people, strengthening children’s ministry, reviving dormant members and deepening the spiritual lives of church members.
He also called for renewed efforts to strengthen the Methodist Prayer Revival Programme (MPRP) across the church’s societies as part of its commitment to spiritual growth.
On economic empowerment, Bro Sakyi said the Lay Movement was leading The Methodist Entrepreneurship Development Programme, an initiative endorsed by the church to promote entrepreneurship among its members.
He disclosed that seed funding had been made available for the programme, with applications already being received from prospective beneficiaries.
According to him, the initiative would provide opportunities for young people, particularly those who struggle to secure employment after completing their education, to explore entrepreneurship and establish their own businesses.
Bro Sakyi reaffirmed his commitment to working with the church’s leadership to sustain ongoing initiatives, strengthen the Methodist Church Ghana and expand its contribution to national development, to the glory of God.
