The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reached an agreement with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to remain in charge of the Black Stars following the end of his previous coaching mandate.
The new agreement was reached after discussions involving Queiroz, the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, paving the way for the experienced coach to continue leading Ghana’s senior national team.
Queiroz’s new tenure is expected to begin with the next international window.
His previous assignment, which included responsibility for Ghana’s campaign at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, ended a few weeks ago. The latest agreement means the Portuguese coach will now continue with the team as the GFA begins preparations for its next phase of international competition.
The GFA said Queiroz’s wealth of international experience, technical knowledge and familiarity with the Black Stars were key factors behind the decision to retain him.
“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter,” the Association said in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 2.
The football governing body, however, has not disclosed the length of Queiroz’s new contract or the specific terms attached to his latest mandate.
The GFA said details regarding the coach’s assignment and the Black Stars’ upcoming programme would be communicated at a later date.
Queiroz will now begin preparations for Ghana’s next international engagements as the Association seeks to establish what it describes as a successful new chapter for the national team.
