President John Dramani Mahama is preparing to make further changes to the leadership of state institutions as part of ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, coordination and performance within his administration.
The expected changes will target Chief Executives of state-owned institutions and form part of a wider restructuring exercise already undertaken by the government. The administration has previously carried out a ministerial reshuffle and dissolved the boards of some public institutions.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, the Presidency said the planned changes were consistent with President Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that government appointees remain focused on the policies and priorities of his administration.
The statement also stressed the President’s expectation of discipline, accountability and strong leadership among political appointees across government.
Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executives, board members and other appointees have been reminded of their responsibility to perform their duties with integrity, diligence and humility while adhering to established administrative procedures.
The Presidency cautioned that actions capable of weakening government cohesion, undermining institutional authority or frustrating the implementation of government policies would not be accepted.
It further reminded government appointees that occupying public office comes with the responsibility to serve the interests of the Ghanaian people.
According to the statement, the performance of appointees across the various sectors of government will remain under continuous assessment. It said the President would not hesitate to take additional measures where necessary to protect the effectiveness and credibility of his administration.
“The President will take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his Administration,” the statement said.
The Presidency subsequently urged all government appointees to cooperate with the ongoing reorganisation and remain focused on delivering the administration’s mandate and improving the welfare of Ghanaians.
