Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School has confirmed the death of one of its candidates during the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination after the student reportedly suffered a brief illness.
School authorities said the institution is mourning with the bereaved family while also putting measures in place to support the remaining candidates as the nationwide examination continues.
According to management, counselling and academic support are being provided to students to help them remain focused and emotionally stable throughout the examination period despite the unfortunate development.
The school further disclosed that another registered candidate has discontinued schooling and is currently absent from the ongoing examinations.
In a separate development, a pregnant candidate of the school successfully took part in the English Oral paper alongside her colleagues without incident.
A total of 1,022 candidates from the school are sitting for this year’s WASSCE as core subject papers continue across the country.
Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics and Assistant Examination Supervisor, Agyekum Kwaku, described the conduct of the examination at the school as smooth and orderly.
He stated that the school continues to uphold a strict zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice and has intensified monitoring to ensure compliance with all examination regulations.
According to him, invigilators and supervisors have maintained close supervision throughout the examination process to preserve the integrity of the exercise.
Mr Kwaku expressed satisfaction with the level of discipline among candidates and the overall organisation of the examinations so far.
Meanwhile, other examination centres in Kumasi, including St. Louis Senior High School and T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, have also reported calm and orderly examination proceedings.
More than 500,000 candidates across Ghana are currently sitting for the 2026 WASSCE under heightened supervision by examination authorities and school administrators nationwide.
