Ghana water announces temporary supply disruption in parts of western accra

Ghana Water Limited has announced temporary water supply interruptions in several parts of western Accra following technical challenges at the Weija Water Treatment Plant.

In a press release dated May 13, 2026, the company explained that the technical difficulties have affected water production and distribution, leading to erratic supply and low water pressure across a number of communities within the Greater Accra Region.

According to Ghana Water Limited, the affected areas include Dansoman, Mamprobi, Mataheko, Laterbiokorshie, Korle-Bu, Lapaz, McCarthy Hill, Gbawe, Mallam, Tesano, Darkuman, North Kaneshie, Dome, Achimota, Anyaa, Ablekuma and surrounding communities.

Management said engineers and technical teams are currently working around the clock to address the challenges and restore normal water production and distribution as quickly as possible.

The company advised residents in the affected areas to store water whenever supply becomes available in order to manage the temporary disruptions.

Ghana Water Limited also encouraged hospitals, schools, and other essential service providers experiencing severe shortages to contact the company through its call centre and official communication channels for assistance and updates.

The utility provider apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience, calm and cooperation while repair works continue at the treatment plant.
