At least three Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health officials.
One of the strikes, near the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killed Basir Al-Bursh, the son of Munir Al-Bursh, director-general of Gaza’s health ministry, medics and family members said.
The Israeli military said it had targeted several militants in Gaza on Saturday, including Basir Al-Bursh. It did not provide further details. Hamas, which controls Gaza, has not commented.
Video obtained by Reuters showed Mr Al-Bursh carrying his son’s body, wrapped in a blanket, as mourners took him to hospital.
“I was with him in the tent, and he said, Dad, they will target us, you and me together,” Mr Al-Bursh said in the video.
He said his son then left the tent and was struck in the attack.
Mr Al-Bursh had previously lost a daughter in an Israeli airstrike in December 2023 and was also wounded in that attack, according to relatives and medics.
At Al Shifa Hospital, he was seen struggling to stand as mourners gathered to pay their respects.
Elsewhere, a man was killed in an Israeli strike in Shejaia, east of Gaza City, while another strike hit a vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan district, killing one person, according to medics and Gaza’s civil defence service.
The Israeli military said the Sheikh Radwan strike targeted a Hamas militant. Images showed the vehicle badly damaged by the blast.
Palestinian authorities say more than 73,000 people have been killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel in October 2023.
A US-brokered ceasefire agreed last year called for the eventual reconstruction of Gaza. However, negotiations have made little progress, with disagreements over Hamas disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Gaza health officials say more than 1,300 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed since the ceasefire took effect. The Israeli military says four of its soldiers have been killed during the same period.
