Finance ministry approves payment of JUSAG salary arrears amid strike

The Ministry of Finance has approved the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), following an ongoing strike over delayed payments.

The approval comes after members of the association embarked on an industrial action to demand the disbursement of revised salary arrears dating back to January 2026.

The strike has significantly disrupted court operations across the country, with several court facilities remaining inaccessible to the public.

Among the affected institutions are the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Accra Circuit Court and various District Courts, where court activities have been affected by the absence of striking staff.

Security personnel have been stationed at some court premises to restrict access, while red cloth has been tied to the entrances of several court complexes as a visible expression of the association’s grievances.

The development has raised concerns about the impact of the industrial action on the administration of justice, particularly for litigants, lawyers and other members of the public who rely on the courts for legal proceedings.

The Finance Ministry’s approval marks a development in efforts to address the outstanding payments. However, further details on the expected payment timeline and whether the approval will lead to an immediate suspension of the strike have not been provided in the information available.
