An Accra High Court has ordered the extradition of Fredrick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, to the United States to face charges over an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme.
The decision is the latest development in a case that has been before the courts since Kumi’s arrest in December 2025 at the request of US authorities.
His lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, announced the ruling in a social media post on Thursday, saying the case had been fast-tracked while he was out of the country on official duties.
Kumi had previously been granted bail of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties after spending several months in custody.
US prosecutors allege that he played a role in a romance scam operation that defrauded victims of about $8 million. Ghanaian prosecutors are seeking to transfer him to the United States under the country’s extradition laws so that he can stand trial there.
The extradition order is expected to trigger a fresh legal battle, with Kumi’s defence team likely to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court.
If an appeal is filed, the country’s highest court will determine whether the extradition should proceed.
