Methodist Church Ghana deepens historic ties as Presiding Bishop attends British Methodist Conference

The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev. Prof. Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, is participating in the 2026 British Methodist Conference in Telford, United Kingdom, joining Methodist leaders from across the world for the Church’s highest decision-making gathering.

The conference, which began on 23 June and ends on 2 July, has brought together ministers, lay representatives and ecumenical partners to deliberate on matters affecting the Church and wider society, while strengthening ties within the global Methodist Connexion.

According to The Methodist Church Ghana, the Presiding Bishop’s participation reflects the longstanding relationship between the Ghanaian and British Methodist Churches and their shared commitment to advancing the Church’s mission.

During the conference, Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu took part in a panel discussion on theological education, where he shared The Methodist Church Ghana’s perspective on ministerial formation and the future of theological training.

He also joined the ordination service for new deacons on Sunday and is expected to officiate at the Service of Holy Communion as part of the conference programme.

A notable moment during the gathering was his reunion with 99-year-old Deaconess Betty Vaughn, who served as a missionary in Ghana from 1962 to 1968 at the Kwadaso Women’s Centre and later at Bethel Methodist Church in Takoradi.
