More than ten students have been apprehended following violent clashes between students of Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The arrests follow retaliatory attacks between rival students, which led to the burning and destruction of several structures across both campuses in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026
the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah, confirmed that police had restored calm and secured the affected areas. He noted that while several students fled campus upon the arrival of law enforcement, their escape would not shield them from accountability.
“We have apprehended them. And there are more,” DCOP Owusu-Bempah stated, adding that police are compiling a comprehensive list of all individuals involved in the violence.
In a significant update, police investigations revealed that some faculty members may have actively incited the violence.
According to DCOP Owusu-Bempah, authorities have identified specific teachers alleged to have encouraged students to attack their counterparts.
“We have the names of the teachers. They have nowhere to go. At the appropriate time, we will arrest all of them, and their names will be published,” he warned.
Six students from Okuapeman SHS sustained injuries during the violence and were transported to the hospital for treatment. According to the school’s Headmaster, four of the injured students have been treated and discharged, while two remain admitted as of Wednesday afternoon.
Police have urged remaining students to return to campus and cooperate fully with ongoing investigations. DCOP Owusu-Bempah assured the public that all perpetrators would face the full force of the law, while warning against any external or local interference in the police process.
The underlying cause of the clashes remains under investigation.
