MTN Ghana introduces new charges on MoMo transfers to bank accounts

MTN Ghana has announced a new transaction charge on transfers from Mobile Money wallets to bank accounts, set to take effect from June 1, 2026.

In a notification sent to customers on Monday, May 25, the telecom operator stated that Mobile Money users will now pay a fee of 0.75 percent on every transfer from their MoMo wallets to bank accounts.

According to the company, the new charge will be capped at GH¢5 per transaction, regardless of the amount transferred.

MTN Ghana explained that the adjustment forms part of efforts to improve service delivery and maintain the quality of its digital financial services.

“This will help us continue to serve you better,” the company said in the customer notice.

The introduction of the new fee is expected to affect millions of users who frequently rely on Mobile Money platforms to move funds between their wallets and bank accounts for business transactions, savings, bill payments, and other financial activities.

Mobile Money continues to play a major role in Ghana’s digital economy, with recent data from the Bank of Ghana showing sustained growth in transaction volumes and values across the sector.

Industry observers say the latest adjustment could influence customer transaction patterns, particularly among users who regularly transfer large sums from MoMo wallets into traditional banking channels.
