The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has officially launched Gazette 360, a nationwide civic education campaign aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the Ghana Gazette, the government’s official journal of record for legal notices, statutory declarations, and administrative announcements.
The initiative, unveiled at a press conference in the GPCL Boardroom in Accra, underscores the Publishing Company’s commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian can easily access, understand, and trust the Gazette as a sacred legal instrument that documents the official voice of the Republic of Ghana.
Practical Guide for Citizens
As part of the campaign, GPCL has outlined a simplified process for obtaining a Gazette under Gazette 360:
- Submission of Documents – Individuals are required to visit GPCL premises with the appropriate documents, such as a Statutory Declaration, Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, or other supporting paperwork.
- Verification – A designated officer will review and validate the documents.
- Payment – Applicants will make payments to generate a unique code and receipt for tracking.
- Registration and Application – An officer will assist applicants with the registration process and guide them through the application steps.
- Collection – The Gazette will be available for collection within the specified timeframe.
This structured approach is expected to demystify the process and ensure citizens can navigate it with ease and confidence.
Broad Support and Endorsements
Speaking at the launch, GPCL’s Managing Director stressed that Gazette 360 is more than a procedural campaign; it is a civic awakening designed to strengthen public trust and prevent the circulation of fake or misleading documents. “The Gazette must be accessible, authentic, and understood by all,” he emphasized.
The campaign has attracted strong institutional and corporate backing. Representatives from Marry Right Ghana, a key partner institution, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the initiative, while AngloGold Ashanti, the official sponsor, pledged resources to expand its national reach.
In addition, several eminent national leaders graced the launch and endorsed the initiative, including Professor Baffour Agyemang, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo (Immediate Past Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana), and a representative of the National Chief Imam. Their presence reflected the broad consensus that safeguarding and promoting the Gazette is both a civic and moral responsibility.
Looking Ahead
By introducing Gazette 360, GPCL is signaling a proactive strategy to not only preserve the sanctity of the Gazette but also adapt it to modern realities. The campaign forms part of broader reforms announced by the Company, including ongoing plans to develop electronic systems that will allow instant verification of Gazette documents, thereby reducing the risk of forgeries.
The launch of Gazette 360 represents a significant milestone in Ghana’s governance and civic education framework. With strong institutional support, grassroots engagement, and a renewed focus on accessibility, the Ghana Publishing Company is reinforcing the Gazette as a pillar of democracy, legality, and public trust.
