Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana consoles family of the late Dr. Samuel Sarpong

The Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana has extended its heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of the late Dr. Samuel Sarpong, a revered statesman and public servant.

In a solemn and prayerful visit to the family residence, the Diocese expressed its deep sympathy and support during this time of immense grief.

Dr. Samuel Sarpong and his family are dedicated members of the Methodist Church Ghana. They have long worshipped with the Garrison Methodist Society in Kumasi, where they are known for their active participation and unwavering commitment to the life and mission of the church.”

The delegation was led by Rt. Rev. Stephen Kwaku Wusu, Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese, accompanied by key leaders of the Church including Very Rev. Benjamin Anson, Secretary to Synod; Rev. Daniel Kofi Asante Ennin, General Manager of Wesleyan Television; and other distinguished ministers of the Methodist Church.

During the visit, the delegation prayed with the family and offered words of comfort, assuring them that the Church stands with them in mourning and in hope.

Rt. Rev. Stephen Kwaku Wusu described Dr. Sarpong as a dedicated servant of the nation and a man of faith whose legacy would not be forgotten.

Background
Ghana was thrown into national mourning following a tragic military helicopter crash near Obuasi, which claimed the lives of several high-profile individuals.

The delegation was on its way to launch a national initiative against illegal mining (galamsey)—a critical step in environmental and national reform.

Among the deceased was Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose passing has left a deep void within the party and the nation at large. He was known for his dedication to public service and grassroots development.

The helicopter is believed to have gone down due to adverse conditions, though a full investigation is underway. The loss has drawn widespread sorrow and tributes from political, religious, and international communities.

The visit served not only as an expression of sorrow but also as a reaffirmation of the Church’s commitment to uphold the bereaved in prayer and support.

As the nation remembers Dr. Samuel Sarpong, the Methodist Church continues to call for strength, unity, and faith in this moment of collective loss.
