The Bishop of the Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana has urged delegates attending the church’s 52nd Biennial Conference to use the gathering to examine their lives and renew their commitment to God.
The Rt Rev Ebenezer Popson Adjei made the call as the conference entered its fourth day with a morning devotion at St Paul Methodist Cathedral in Tema.
He encouraged delegates to look beyond the business of the conference and use the gathering as a time for prayer, reflection and a closer examination of their relationship with God.
The Bishop said the teachings of Scripture should guide members as they assess their lives and consider how their faith is reflected in their actions.
The day’s devotion centred on a reading from 1 Timothy 6:17–19, delivered by the Lay Chairman of the Tema Diocese, Rexford R. Amponsah.
The passage cautions those who have wealth against placing their hope in material possessions and instead calls on them to trust in God, be generous and willing to share.
The spiritual reflection preceded the day’s business, with delegates considering reports from various directorates of the church.
Among the reports scheduled for consideration are those from the General Directorate for Finance and Development, the Legal and Corporate Affairs Directorate and directorates under the Executive.
The discussions are part of the conference’s broader review of the church’s work and its priorities for the years ahead.
For the Bishop of Tema, however, the value of the gathering extends beyond decisions and reports, with the call for delegates to ensure that the work of the church is matched by a renewed commitment to the faith that underpins its mission.
