Minority leader hails five NPP aspirants, urges unity in campaigns

Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has congratulated all five aspirants who have filed nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.

The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee earlier confirmed that five aspirants — Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Ken Ohene Agyepong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum — have successfully completed and submitted their nomination forms.

The internal election, scheduled for Saturday, 31 January 2026, will elect a flagbearer to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, 28 August, the Effutu legislator hailed the aspirants’ decision as a milestone in “deepening our internal democracy and strengthening the party’s traditions.”

“I extend my warm congratulations to all five Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he wrote.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin urged aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in an atmosphere of unity, decorum, and mutual respect. He also cautioned against divisive rhetoric, emphasizing that the party’s collective focus must remain on building a stronger NPP and advancing national development.

He concluded with a rallying note, invoking the party’s emblem: “Indeed, the elephant is a winning symbol!”
