Methodist Presiding Bishop calls for practical Christian living as new Church Year begins

The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has urged members of the church to make the Word of God the foundation of their faith and ministry as the church begins a new Church Year.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, he called on clergy, laity and other members of the church to deepen their commitment to Scripture and allow its teachings to guide their Christian lives and service to God.

He stressed that the Word of God must remain central to the church’s preaching, teaching, worship and all other aspects of its ministry, noting that Scripture provides the foundation upon which the Christian faith and the work of the church must depend.

The Presiding Bishop said the importance of the Word of God to Christian life required members of the Methodist Church Ghana to embrace three key responsibilities: proclaiming, praying and practising the Word.

He explained that Methodists must actively share the message of Scripture, remain committed to prayer and demonstrate their faith by putting biblical teachings into practice in their daily lives.

He further emphasised that the entire Bible must be received as the inspired Word of God and recognised as the ultimate authority guiding Christian beliefs and behaviour.

According to him, the church’s efforts to fulfil its mission would fall short if members failed to take seriously God’s revelation through Jesus Christ as recorded in Scripture.

He therefore challenged clergy and laity to ensure that the Word of God shapes their preaching, leadership, decisions and interactions with others, stressing that the church must not only proclaim the Word but also live by its teachings.

The message comes as The Methodist Church Ghana begins its new Church Year on October 1 under the theme, “Walking in God’s Word,” which calls on members to move beyond hearing Scripture to putting its teachings into practice.
