Leadership of Methodist Church converge in Tema for weeklong Biennial Conference

The leadership of the Methodist Church Ghana has converged in Tema for the church’s 52nd Biennial Conference, bringing together Rev Ministers, delegates and participants from across the country for a weeklong deliberative session on the affairs, progress and future direction of the church.

The conference, hosted by the Tema Diocese, began on Monday, 17 August 2026, at the St Paul Methodist Cathedral in Community 1, Tema, with delegates settling into the week’s programme of activities and deliberations.

The official opening of the conference is scheduled for Wednesday, 19 August 2026, when the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu is expected to deliver a keynote address.

The keynote address by the Presiding Bishop is expected to set the tone for the conference, outlining the church’s vision, priorities and aspirations for the period ahead. It will also offer an opportunity to reflect on the Methodist Church Ghana’s mission and its role in the spiritual and social development of communities across the country.

The Biennial Conference is the highest decision-making body of the Methodist Church Ghana, bringing together the church’s leadership and representatives to deliberate on major matters concerning its administration, ministry, policies and future direction.

It brings together church leaders, representatives of dioceses and other delegates to review the work of the church, consider reports and proposals, and take decisions on matters affecting its administration and ministry.

Throughout the week, delegates are expected to engage in discussions on a range of issues concerning the growth and development of the church. The deliberations are also expected to focus on strengthening the church’s structures and programmes while responding to emerging challenges confronting its members and the wider society.

The conference provides a platform for the church to assess progress made since its previous biennial gathering and establish priorities for the next phase of its work.

In addition to its spiritual responsibilities, the Methodist Church Ghana has a long-standing involvement in education, social development and community service. The conference therefore offers an opportunity for its leadership to examine how these areas can be strengthened to meet changing needs.

The gathering in Tema is also expected to bring together representatives with diverse experiences from across the church’s dioceses, creating an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and discuss approaches to improving the delivery of the church’s programmes.

The St Paul Methodist Cathedral in Community 1 is serving as the main venue for the conference, with the Tema Diocese playing host to the delegates and participants throughout the week.

The formal opening on Wednesday is expected to attract significant attention as the Presiding Bishop addresses the conference and outlines the broader issues that will guide the week’s deliberations.
