An Accra Circuit Court has, for the second time, refused bail to Alhassan Shiabu, a trader accused of possessing 30 wraps of a dried substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
Shiabu appeared in court on July 14, 2025, but his plea was not taken as the forensic report on the substance remains pending. Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah adjourned the case to July 22, 2025.
Chief Inspector Ramatu Asumah informed the court that Shiabu was arrested on June 20, 2025, during a joint police operation at a known drug peddling spot at Korle near Abossey Okai.
Police allegedly found a bag containing 30 wraps of suspected narcotic drugs in Shiabu’s possession. However, the accused denied ownership of the bag, claiming he had only picked it up after his friend, identified as “Antarrow,” abandoned it and fled during the raid.
Shiabu has reportedly failed to assist police in locating this individual. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
