Three arrested over midnight motor racing, robberies in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an outlaw motorcycle gang accused of terrorising residents within the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Sharif Mahmud, 25-year-old Abdallah Karim and 25-year-old James Alena, were arrested during a police operation at Suame in Kumasi at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

According to the police, the gang is allegedly involved in illegal midnight motorcycle racing, during which members take over public roads and attack and rob unsuspecting passersby.

The Command said it had been monitoring the suspects’ movements and activities as part of sustained efforts to apprehend them after they repeatedly evaded arrest.

However, several other suspected gang members reportedly escaped during the operation, prompting the police to intensify efforts to track them down.

The three suspects have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to appear before court when sitting resumes following the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing as police pursue the remaining members of the suspected gang.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged residents to provide credible information that could assist in identifying and arresting the fleeing suspects.
