A 24-year-old Pragya tricycle rider has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for biting a Community Police Assistant (CPA) during an altercation.
Abdul Aziz pleaded guilty to the charge of negligently causing harm and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, who prosecuted the case, told the court presided over by Robert Addo that the complainants were officers from the Nkawie Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
He said that on September 3, 2026, at about 8:40 a.m., the officers, led by Chief Inspector Abedi Larbi, were on official patrol duties to ensure road safety in Nkawie when they intercepted Aziz, who was riding a Pragya tricycle with registration number M-25-A-3722.
According to the prosecutor, a careful inspection revealed that Aziz did not have a valid driver’s licence and other required documents. Alhassan Seidu, a Community Police Assistant, was therefore instructed to escort him to the police station for further action.
However, on their way to the station, Aziz allegedly took a different route. When Seidu directed him to take the appropriate route to the police station, he allegedly disobeyed and attacked the officer, resulting in a struggle between the two.
During the struggle, Aziz bit Seidu on the chest, causing him to shout for help. Some young people nearby rushed to the scene and assisted the police in arresting him.
In his caution statement, Aziz admitted committing the offence. Following further investigations, he was charged and brought before the court, where he pleaded guilty and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
