Thirteen people have died and five others are in critical condition following a fatal road crash involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace on the Sege-Tema highway in the Greater Accra Region.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, as the two vehicles were reportedly travelling along the Sege highway towards Ada.
According to a Facebook post by Assistant Divisional Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Alex King Nartey, personnel from the Sege Fire Station responded to the incident after it was reported.
A total of 18 casualties were recorded. Thirteen victims died at the scene, while the five survivors were rushed to the Sege Polyclinic, where they are currently receiving medical treatment in critical condition.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash, including what caused the two vehicles to collide, have not yet been established.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety and the need for motorists to exercise greater caution on Ghana’s highways.
Motorists and other road users are being urged to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and remain vigilant, particularly when travelling on busy highways.
