Accra Floods: Methodist Church Presiding Bishop appeals to Ministers to provide shelter and material support for flood victims

The Methodist Church Ghana has expressed its heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with individuals and families affected by the recent flooding in parts of Accra following heavy rains.

In a message issued by the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, the Church assured victims of its prayers and support during this difficult period.

“Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all who are affected by the deluge in parts of Accra as a result of the rains,” the Presiding Bishop stated, while praying for swift assistance for those trapped in flooded communities and those who have lost their valuables.

He also called on ministers of the Methodist Church Ghana to provide all available material and physical support to those in need. The directive encourages ministers to mobilize relief efforts within their communities and, where necessary, open church facilities to provide temporary accommodation for displaced persons.

The Church believes that such practical acts of compassion will complement ongoing emergency response efforts and bring hope to those affected by the disaster.

The Presiding Bishop concluded his message with a prayer for God’s protection and comfort, saying, “May the Lord be with His people in their distress.”

The message was accompanied by the scripture from Psalm 32:7 (NIV): “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

The Methodist Church Ghana’s appeal highlights the importance of faith, compassion and collective action in supporting communities as they recover from the devastating effects of the floods.
