The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has interdicted a Police Inspector, Bright Appiah Dankwah, over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack targeting a mobile money vendor in Kumasi.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday, May 11, the suspect, who is attached to the Asuoyeboah Police Station, was arrested following an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit.

Police said a search carried out at the officer’s residence led to the retrieval of a Bruni Model 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and an amount of GH¢9,835 believed to be connected to the ongoing investigations.

The statement further indicated that Inspector Dankwah has since been interdicted from the service pending the outcome of investigations into the alleged robbery incident.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Monday, May 11, 2026, where he was remanded into police custody.

He is expected to reappear before the court on May 29, 2026.

The Police Service says investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and determine whether additional suspects may be involved.

The development has sparked renewed public discussion about professionalism and accountability within the security services, particularly in relation to crimes involving law enforcement personnel.
