The Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has revealed that six people have lost their lives following a series of attacks in Nkwanta South, where suspected assailants are said to be hiding in bushes and targeting unsuspecting residents.
Speaking on AM Show on Friday, March 27, Mr Gyapong explained that preliminary investigations indicate the attackers ambush victims mainly in farms and remote bush areas, creating widespread fear within the community.
He recounted a recent tragic incident involving a young boy who had taken his father’s cattle out to graze but was later found dead in the bush.
Mr Gyapong noted that the nature and pattern of the killings point to a deliberate attempt by certain groups to assert control over land and restrict others from accessing it.
He further disclosed that, as of Monday, the death toll had reached six, including three children.
According to him, the attacks have predominantly taken place in isolated farming areas, suggesting a calculated strategy to intimidate residents and strengthen territorial claims.
Describing the situation as alarming, the Minister called for swift intervention to restore peace and security in the affected communities.
