Sports ministry confirms $14m budget for black stars’ 2026 world cup

Kofi Adams has presented a proposed budget of GHS 146,268,659.80 for Ghana’s senior national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The allocation — just under 14 million US dollars — is designed to finance every component of the team’s participation, including player welfare packages, appearance fees and bonuses, travel and accommodation logistics, remuneration for the technical team, and other competition-related costs.

According to the Ministry, the projected figure is based on a full tournament run, assuming the Ghana national football team advance through each stage of the competition. Officials say a comprehensive breakdown of the expenditure will be released as preparations intensify.

As part of their pre-tournament schedule, the Black Stars are set to engage Germany and Austria during the March international window, before facing Mexico in May to fine-tune strategies ahead of the global showpiece.

Placed in Group L, Ghana will begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17, take on England on June 23, and conclude the group phase with a fixture against Croatia on June 27.

After suffering back-to-back exits at the group stage in recent tournaments, the Black Stars are aiming for a stronger showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
