Foreign affairs ministry denies approval for dvla services abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted circulating online reports claiming it has authorised the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to provide driver’s licence registration and renewal services to Ghanaians living overseas.

In a statement dated February 26, 2026, the Ministry clarified that it has not issued any instructions to Ghana’s diplomatic missions nor granted approval for such services in countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

The Ministry further indicated that it has no knowledge of any new government policy permitting DVLA personnel to travel abroad to deliver licensing services to members of the Ghanaian diaspora.

It stressed that there has been no formal consultation on the matter, no policy memorandum submitted for review and no budgetary allocation approved to support what viral reports have portrayed as a new initiative.

According to the Ministry, there is no documentation within its offices to confirm the existence of such a programme.

Reassuring the public, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, and urged citizens to disregard the misinformation being shared online.
