Newly appointed Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has been convicted of a speeding offence after missing a scheduled speed awareness course due to travel delays caused by fog.
Rosenior admitted to driving at 36mph in a 30mph zone on Rykneld Road in Littleover, Derbyshire, at 11.41am on July 7. He was initially offered the opportunity to avoid prosecution by completing a speed awareness course but failed to attend the session.
In a written explanation to Derby Magistrates’ Court, Rosenior said his flight back to the United Kingdom was delayed by fog, forcing him to remain abroad overnight and travel the following day, which clashed with the timing of the course. He added that the session could not be rearranged due to the unforeseen circumstances and accepted responsibility for the outcome.
The 41-year-old was convicted at a single justice procedure hearing on January 2 and ordered to pay a total of £1,052 in fines, costs, and court fees.
Rosenior was appointed Chelsea head coach on Tuesday following the departure of Enzo Maresca. The former Strasbourg manager described the role as a major step up in his career, acknowledging that managing Chelsea was an opportunity he could not turn down.
He has signed a six-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, becoming the club’s fourth permanent manager since BlueCo took ownership in 2022.
