Presiding Bishop leads opening of Nov. 2025 GPC Meeting, calls for scripture-centered church strategy

The Methodist Church Ghana opened its 2025 General Purposes Council (GPC) meeting with a deeply stirring message from The Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu.

The session, attended by Heads of the Church, Lay Chairmen and ministers from across the Dioceses, took place at Wesley Towers in Accra as leaders gathered to review the Church’s activities and strengthen its strategic direction.

The Presiding Bishop delivered a brief yet profoundly enriching exhortation that focused on the enduring power and relevance of the Word of God. He emphasized that Christmas marks the celebration of the Word made flesh, a reminder that Scripture continues to guide, enlighten and shape the Christian life.

He explained that God reveals Himself to humanity through the Scriptures, and every believer must rely on the Word for wisdom and critical decision-making.

He encouraged members to cultivate a deep personal devotion to God through consistent engagement with Scripture, stressing that John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, exemplified this commitment as a man grounded in the Word.

He further noted that even if the Bible were burnt or destroyed, the truth embedded in the human heart remains indestructible. He cited the crucifixion of Jesus as a profound example of how the devil’s attempts to silence the Word ultimately fail.

The Presiding Bishop also expressed concern about the modern approach to revival, observing that many gatherings today focus heavily on emotional expressions such as shouting, stamping and rolling on the floor, or on financial contributions, rather than on the core discipline that sustains genuine renewal.

He reminded the Church that throughout Christian history, true revival has only emerged where people take the Word of God seriously and allow it to shape their lives.

The opening day of the GPC meeting has therefore set a strong and compelling tone, urging the Methodist Church Ghana to reaffirm its commitment to Scripture as the foundation of ministry, worship and spiritual growth.
