Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has expressed strong confidence that Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is already guaranteed following the Black Stars’ impressive victory over the Central African Republic.
Speaking in a media interaction on Wednesday, the Minister stated that the team’s dominant performance has virtually guaranteed their place at next year’s tournament. He noted that, considering the current goal difference and group standings, it would be highly unlikely for any remaining results to hinder Ghana’s qualification.
According to him, the mathematical odds are overwhelmingly in Ghana’s favor, making it virtually impossible for rival teams to overturn the lead. He noted that the team’s focus should now be on maintaining momentum rather than worrying about qualification.
The Black Stars strengthened their position at the top of Group I after a commanding 5-0 win over the Central African Republic in Morocco, with four goals scored in the second half. The result pushed Ghana three points clear, leaving them just one step away from officially booking their spot at the tournament to be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Mr. Adams described Sunday’s final qualifying game against Comoros as a moment for national celebration rather than anxiety, encouraging fans to show up in large numbers to support and honor the players.
He said the upcoming match at the Accra Sports Stadium should be seen as an opportunity for Ghanaians to applaud the team’s effort and unity throughout the qualification campaign.
The Minister’s optimism mirrors the confidence of many football fans across the country, who believe the Black Stars have effectively sealed their return to the global stage.
