Confusion has gripped the New Patriotic Party (NPP) just days before its National Delegates Conference, following the emergence of a High Court writ that names two party members as plaintiffs in a legal action against the party—one of whom has now publicly disassociated himself from the case.
The writ, dated July 17, 2025, and issued by the High Court in Accra, identifies Shamsudeen Iddrisu from Walewale and Boateng Kwadwo from Bantama as plaintiffs, with the NPP’s National Headquarters listed as the defendant. The document directs the party to respond within eight days.
However, in a swift and strongly worded statement on Thursday evening, Shamsudeen Iddrisu categorically denied any involvement in the legal action. According to him, he had no prior knowledge of the lawsuit and did not authorize any legal representation on his behalf.
“I entreat the public to disregard the writ as I have not instructed any lawyer to do this on my behalf,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.
He further emphasized his unwavering commitment to the party, saying, “As a committed member of the NPP, I have absolute respect for the decisions of the National Council and would not use the courts to undermine such decisions.”
Mr. Iddrisu reaffirmed his loyalty and expressed optimism about the upcoming National Delegates Conference, which is set to take place this weekend at the University of Ghana.
The details of the lawsuit remain unclear, as the specific claims in the writ have not yet been made public. However, early indications suggest that the legal action challenges recent decisions taken by the NPP’s National Council.
As of now, the second named plaintiff, Boateng Kwadwo, has not issued any public comment regarding his inclusion in the suit.
The development has stirred uncertainty within the party’s rank and file, with many awaiting clarification from party leadership on the legal implications, if any, ahead of the crucial delegates conference.
