The law has stripped Nana Agradaa of her religious cover – Rev. Patrick Amissah

A respected news analyst and the Director of Ordained Ministry of the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Dr. Patrick Amissah, has weighed in on the recent sentencing of self-styled evangelist and former fetish priestess, Nana Agradaa.

Speaking on WTV Ghana’s Afternoon Show, The State on July 7, Very Rev. Dr. Amissah stated that the 15-year prison sentence handed to Agradaa was long overdue and reflective of justice finally being served for her past fraudulent activities.

He emphasized that her transition into evangelism, widely seen as an attempt to avoid legal consequences, could not erase the crimes she committed while functioning as a fetish priestess, where she was involved in multiple instances of spiritual deception and financial exploitation.

“The law is the law,” Dr. Amissah declared. “You cannot sin, put on a clerical collar, and expect grace from the courts. God forgives, but the law remembers.”

Nana Agradaa, known in private life as Patricia Asiedua, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour after she was found guilty of defrauding several individuals under the pretense of spiritual assistance.

Despite her sudden rebranding as an evangelist following her initial arrest in 2021, public opinion has remained skeptical about the sincerity of her conversion.

While her legal team is preparing to challenge the verdict, describing the sentence as “excessive,” many legal experts and members of the public argue that the punishment is proportionate to the damage caused by her past actions.

Very Rev. Dr. Amissah urged Ghanaians, particularly those in ministry, not to misuse the name of God as a shield from accountability, stating that such behavior only damages the credibility of the church and hinders genuine evangelism.

He concluded his submission with a call for introspection within Ghana’s Christian community.

“Let us not become a safe haven for criminals who want to cleanse their image through the pulpit. The Church must remain holy and the law must remain just.”
