Nana Agradaa faces sentencing after conviction for deceiving church members

Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has been convicted by the Accra Circuit Court on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences, following her involvement in a deceptive money-doubling scheme.

The court found that the self-styled evangelist, who was formerly a fetish priestess, misled members of her congregation at Godsway International Heaven Church into surrendering large sums of money under the pretense that she could spiritually multiply their funds. The incident occurred during an all-night service at her ministry located in Weija, Accra.

According to court documents and testimonies, Agradaa urged congregants to bring money forward for “spiritual multiplication,” promising that they would receive double or even triple the amount they contributed. However, the promised returns never materialized, and several victims reported the matter to authorities, prompting an investigation and subsequent arrest.

Presiding Judge Evelyn Asamoah, after examining the evidence and hearing from witnesses, ruled that the accused had intentionally deceived vulnerable individuals under the guise of religious faith. Before issuing her final sentence, the court ordered that a pregnancy test be conducted on the convict to inform the appropriate custodial decision.

Nana Agradaa has been a controversial figure in Ghanaian public space, previously known for her activities as a traditional priestess before declaring her conversion to Christianity and founding her own church. This conviction adds to her long history of run-ins with law enforcement and accusations of spiritual fraud.

The sentencing is expected to be announced after the pregnancy test results are submitted.
