The Volta River Authority (VRA) has earned continental recognition for its exceptional performance in public procurement, securing three major awards at the 7th Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Summit & Awards 2025, held in Lagos, Nigeria, from July 3–5.
The event, which brought together top procurement professionals and institutions from across Africa, celebrated VRA’s outstanding contributions to procurement transparency, innovation, and governance.
VRA received the Excellence in Vendor Engagement Award for its supplier-centric procurement approach, powered by Oracle Fusion. This cutting-edge digital platform allows vendors to independently register and participate in procurement activities, enhancing accessibility, transparency, and confidence in the Authority’s systems.
The Authority also secured the Procurement Team of the Year (Silver) award, acknowledging its structured, digitised framework that integrates regulatory compliance with robust internal controls and forward-looking project planning. This approach has enabled VRA to achieve measurable value for money, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
In addition to institutional recognition, VRA’s Director of Procurement, Jacob Fosu-Kyei, was honoured as Africa’s Innovative Public Procurement Leader of the Year. His strategic leadership in implementing governance reforms, enforcing procurement compliance, and advancing digital transformation within VRA has positioned the institution as a benchmark for procurement excellence in the public sector.
Mr. Fosu-Kyei’s efforts have not only modernised VRA’s procurement functions but also reinforced the Authority’s reputation as a transparent, accountable, and innovation-driven public entity.
These achievements reflect VRA’s commitment to continuous improvement and its alignment with the summit’s theme: “Strengthening Public Procurement Governance & Compliance.” The Authority continues to set a continental standard for excellence, with a firm focus on long-term value creation and stakeholder accountability.
