Union Berlin Defender Derrick Kohn earns Ghana call-up for Japan and South Korea friendlies

German Bundesliga side Union Berlin has officially confirmed that left-back Derrick Kohn has received an international call-up to join the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of their upcoming international friendlies this month.

According to the club’s announcement, Kohn has been invited to be part of Ghana’s squad for the friendly matches against Japan and South Korea, scheduled for later in November.

This marks a significant moment for the defender, who was previously invited by head coach Otto Addo but could not feature for Ghana due to delays in the completion of his nationality switch process. With all documentation now finalized, Kohn is poised to make his debut appearance in the national colours.

The call-up comes as part of Ghana’s broader preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, as the technical team continues to assess new and emerging talents capable of strengthening the Black Stars’ defense.

Although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to officially release the full list of invited players, several clubs, including Union Berlin, have already confirmed their players’ inclusion through official communications.

Ghana will first take on Japan on Friday, November 14, in the Kirin Challenge Cup, before facing South Korea four days later. Both fixtures are expected to provide Otto Addo an opportunity to experiment with squad depth and build team cohesion ahead of competitive fixtures next year.

Kohn’s inclusion adds to Ghana’s growing list of Europe-based players opting to represent the country at the international level, highlighting the continued success of efforts to engage Ghanaian talents born or raised abroad.
