President john dramani mahama has appointed aaron kanor as acting commissioner of the customs division of the ghana revenue authority, with immediate effect.
the announcement was made in a statement issued by the authority on february 23, 2026. officials described the appointment as the beginning of a new phase in the leadership of the customs division — a key unit of the gra responsible for revenue mobilisation, border security and trade facilitation.
the statement outlined that mr kanor is a seasoned customs officer with over three decades of experience in revenue generation, border control and trade administration within the authority. it added that he brings deep expertise, strategic direction and dedication to public service to the role.

before his elevation, mr kanor served as officer in charge of port operations, where he supervised critical customs duties such as enforcement of regulations, revenue collection and facilitation of legitimate trade. the authority credited him with tightening border control systems and improving compliance in ghana’s international trade operations.
throughout his career, he has occupied several senior roles nationwide, including sector commander at kotoka international airport and wa collections, and chief revenue officer in different operational areas.
in these positions, he led intelligence-based operations that tackled smuggling, exposed invoice falsification schemes and dismantled networks linked to vehicle identification fraud. according to the authority, these efforts strengthened revenue performance and boosted national security.
the statement also highlighted mr kanor’s contribution to customs modernisation. his involvement in implementing electronic valuation systems and related reforms helped simplify procedures, cut cargo clearance delays and align ghana’s customs practices with global standards while encouraging legitimate trade.
describing the appointment as a strategic step to reinforce customs administration, the authority expressed confidence that his leadership will improve compliance and support economic expansion through safe and efficient trade systems.
the board, management and staff of the gra congratulated mr kanor on his appointment and thanked the outgoing commissioner, brigadier general glover ashong annan, for his service and stewardship of the division.
