Pedestrian knocked down at pokuase interchange as residents blame faulty streetlights

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the pokuase interchange near the eco block area on sunday, march 1, reigniting serious concerns about safety along the busy highway stretch.

witnesses said the accident happened at night amid poor visibility, blaming the collision on malfunctioning streetlights across parts of the interchange.

residents explained that the persistent darkness has turned the area into a danger zone for pedestrians attempting to cross the highway, especially during peak traffic periods.

locals voiced frustration, saying drivers often struggle to see people crossing because of the inadequate lighting.

“a car has just knocked down an auto-sprayer. it’s heartbreaking. none of the streetlights is functioning. imagine a major highway without lighting,” a distraught resident recounted.

community members say the faulty streetlights have remained unrepaired for some time, worsening the risk of accidents, particularly in the evenings when traffic flow remains heavy.

they warn that without swift action, more lives could be put at risk.

residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to urgently fix and restore the streetlights, stressing that proper illumination is essential to protect both pedestrians and motorists who rely on the interchange daily.
