The Oguaa Traditional Council has imposed a fine of GH¢30,000, three male white sheep, and a carton of schnapps on Ato Trustworthy, a radio presenter with Elmina-based Ahomka FM, for making disparaging remarks against the Council.
As part of the penalty, Mr. Trustworthy must carry a sheep around his neck from the Oguaa Akoto Monument near London Bridge, through Kingsway to the Oguaamanhen’s house (Efiekesem), and finally to the Emintsimadze Palace, where traditional rites will be performed to appease the gods.
He has also been given 14 days to issue an unequivocal public apology to the Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Traditional Council, and the people of Cape Coast for bringing their names into disrepute.
The Council initially rejected his apology two weeks ago but reconsidered on Monday following persistent pleas from his delegation, led by Rev. Father Joojo Gyepi-Garbrah of the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral.
The punishment stems from a viral TikTok video in which Mr. Trustworthy, reacting to an incident at the PANAFEST 2025 opening, referred to the Omanhen of Edina and the Omanhen of Oguaa as “two small boys.” The remark was deemed highly disrespectful, especially as he had previously made similar utterances and been cautioned.
In a statement, the Council stressed that the decision serves as a warning to all media practitioners to uphold respect and cultural integrity when speaking about traditional authorities.
Mr. Trustworthy expressed gratitude for the opportunity to make amends and pledged to comply fully with the directives.
Oguaamanhen Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, in a brief remark after the deliberations, emphasised the importance of upholding tradition, noting that while the palace is a place of peace, cultural protocols must be observed for harmony to prevail.
