NSS to shut down registration Friday as 50% of personnel fail to report

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced that it will shut down its registration system on Friday, following what officials describe as an alarming lack of compliance from this year’s deployed personnel.

According to the Deputy Director-General of Operations, Fuseini Donkor, only half of the national service members have reported to complete their registration, despite continuous reminders.

Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Donkor expressed deep frustration over the situation, noting that the Service’s operations are being disrupted by the delays. He stated that the NSS cannot keep the system open indefinitely when many personnel are simply refusing to report.

“By Friday, we are closing the system,” he stressed. “Today is Wednesday, and 50 percent of them have not reported. Our system can take even a million, but they must report and register.”

The Deputy Director-General suggested that some of the absentees are deliberately staying away in the hope of manipulating their postings later through unofficial means. He criticised what he described as a growing trend where individuals assume they can return with money to influence their placements.

“The frustration they are giving to the system is becoming too much,” he lamented. “Most of the regional offices are just sitting there doing nothing because somebody thinks ‘I will bring money, I will change it for you.’ Please, by Friday, we are locking the system.”

Mr Donkor emphasised that no amount of pressure or lobbying will lead to an extension and warned that those who fail to register by Friday risk being left out entirely.

The NSS is expected to issue further communication as the deadline approaches, but officials insist that the final decision stands — the system will be shut down without compromise.
