Mahama reaffirms swift action on Damongo water crisis and major infrastructure projects in Savannah Region

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to urgently expand and complete the Damongo Water Supply System in the Savannah Region, describing the water challenges faced by residents as “unacceptable in the 21st century.”

Addressing a delegation led by Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, Overlord of Gonjaland, during a courtesy visit at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama said:

“The hardship faced by residents due to lack of potable water is unacceptable in the 21st century. We will ensure the swift and sustainable delivery of clean water not only to Damongo but also to Larabanga, Canteen, and Busunu.”

The Yagbonwura and his entourage of paramount chiefs visited to extend their congratulations to President Mahama on his re-election in the December 7, 2024 general elections. He was received by President Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the forecourt of the Presidency.

Commitment to Healthcare Expansion

President Mahama reiterated his government’s promise to establish regional hospitals in all six newly created regions. Specifically for the Savannah Region, he announced plans to construct a fully equipped Savannah Regional Hospital in Damongo to serve as the main referral centre.

“This facility will complement the existing West Gonja Hospital and be supported with better ambulance services, health personnel, and residential accommodation,” he said.

Roads and Transport Development

President Mahama also outlined major road projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and trade across the region:
