Ghana’s U15 Girls team has secured a place in the final of the WAFU B Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Championship following a commanding 3–0 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday in Ouagadougou.
The defending champions have been in sensational form, netting an impressive 15 goals across three matches as they chase a second consecutive sub-regional crown.
After a tense first half, tournament top scorer Margaret Akosua Tawiah broke the deadlock from the penalty spot early in the second half. Her goal calmed Ghana’s nerves and set the stage for a dominant finish. Belinda Kpentey then doubled the advantage with a stunning strike, before Mavis Koah rounded off the scoring, ensuring a comprehensive win at the 4 August Stadium.
Ghana’s march to the final has been marked by dominance. Sandra Boakye’s side began the campaign with a 5–0 demolition of Benin, followed by a 7–0 victory over Niger, topping their group with flair and confidence. The team’s attacking fluidity, tactical discipline, and relentless pace have impressed fans in Burkina Faso, showcasing a blend of creativity, precision, and composure beyond their years.
With momentum firmly on their side, Ghana now face hosts Burkina Faso in Thursday’s final. While the Ghanaians enter as favourites, the home crowd and spirited Burkinabé squad promise a high-stakes contest in the hunt for the sub-regional title they lifted in Niger last year.
The WAFU B Qualifiers, organised under the Confederation of African Football (CAF), are part of a continental initiative to strengthen grassroots football and nurture Africa’s next generation of talent. The zone, featuring regional heavyweights such as Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Niger, and host Burkina Faso, continues to be one of the continent’s most competitive arenas for youth football development.
