The Food and Drugs Authority has shut down 16 food service outlets in the Greater Accra Region for operating without valid Food Hygiene Permits.
The move follows a public notice issued by the Authority, warning that any food establishment without a valid permit as of February 1, 2026, would be closed down.
According to the FDA, the action is part of an intensified enforcement drive to ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations and to protect public health.

Operating without a valid Food Hygiene Permit breaches public health rules designed to prevent unsafe food handling and protect consumers.
The Authority has therefore urged food vendors, chop bar operators and restaurant owners to quickly regularise their documentation to avoid penalties, stressing that inspections and enforcement exercises will continue across the region.
