Newly inducted Goaso Bishop calls for Methodist order and discipline to extend beyond the Church to strengthen Ghanaian society

The newly inducted Bishop of the Goaso Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. David Hanson Wilson, has called for greater discipline in the Church, families and communities, saying the values are essential to national development.

In an exclusive interview following his induction as the 3rd Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilson said his new responsibility included ensuring that members of the Church upheld Methodist order and discipline.

He said the principles should not be limited to the Church but should also influence conduct in workplaces, marriages and communities across the country.

“The Methodist Church Ghana believes in what we call Methodist order and discipline. I think it’s not only the Methodist members or the people called Methodists who need this order and discipline. I think the nation also needs it,” he said.

The Bishop said his induction had placed on him the responsibility of ensuring that members of the Goaso Diocese observed and complied with the Church’s established order and discipline.

He expressed the hope that the values would extend beyond the Church to influence people across the Ahafo Region and the wider Ghanaian society.

Rt. Rev. Wilson said discipline and orderly conduct were important in building stronger families and communities, adding that such values could also contribute to the country’s development.

“When we do our best to do our things orderly in a disciplined manner, the end of it is that God will bless us and God will bless our nation Ghana,” he said.

He called on the clergy, lay representatives and diocesan executives to support his leadership in promoting the values, saying their cooperation would be important in fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him.

The Bishop also pledged to work with institutions and political leaders outside the Church to advance the agenda.

He said he was ready to collaborate with all stakeholders, including non-church institutions and political figures, to ensure that the principles of discipline and order were reflected across society.

Rt. Rev. Wilson thanked members of the Church and other supporters for their prayers and contributions towards his induction, and appealed for continued cooperation as he begins his tenure.

He said the collective effort would help fulfil the responsibilities placed on him and contribute to the advancement of Ghana.
