Don’t turn the pulpit into a platform for personal glory – Very Rev. Twum Baah charges Singing Band members

The Supt. Minister of the Kwabenya Circuit of The Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. DCOP (Rtd) Frank Twum Baah, has called on Christians, particularly members of the Singing Band, to remain rooted in the Word of God, stressing that lasting and effective ministry is founded on biblical truth.

He made the call while preaching at the Kwabenya Circuit Singing Band’s 3rd Biennial Circuit Conference held under the theme, “Walking in the Word: Equipped for Every Good Work.”

Preaching on the conference theme, Very Rev. Twum Baah explained that there is a clear difference between reading the Bible and understanding its message, noting that true salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. He said the Word of God is essential for the daily lives of believers as it trains them in righteousness, equips them for service and transforms their souls.

He noted that walking in the Word shapes the character of believers and prepares them for lives of faithful service.

The Supt. Minister further outlined three key lessons for members of the Singing Band, emphasizing that the Word of God is the foundation of the singing ministry. While gifts and talents may attract attention and create opportunities, he said only the Word provides the spiritual depth needed to sustain ministry and fulfil its divine purpose.

He explained that the calling of the Singing Band is to help believers respond to the voice of God, adding that Scripture exposes wrongdoing, corrects errors and directs Christians onto the path of righteousness.

Very Rev. Twum Baah also reminded members that singing in the church is an act of service rather than a performance. He cautioned that a ministry built on popularity instead of obedience to God’s Word would lose its spiritual impact and fail to serve the Church effectively.

He urged members to approach the pulpit with humility, remembering that their primary responsibility is to minister to God and lead people into His presence rather than seek personal recognition.

The Supt. Minister further warned against pride and complacency, saying believers who fail to value and properly use the gifts entrusted to them by God risk losing those gifts. He encouraged members to continually seek God’s direction, exercise patience, remain humble and develop their skills for the advancement of the ministry.

Concluding his sermon, Very Rev. Twum Baah described the Singing Ministry as an important teaching ministry within the Church, explaining that songs proclaim the character of God and help believers confess their faith while pursuing holy living. He urged members to allow the Word of God to minister to them first before leading others in worship through singing or prayer.
