The Ghana High Commission in Ottawa has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama after successfully distributing FIFA World Cup match tickets to Ghanaians living in Canada to support the Black Stars during their 2026 campaign.
In a statement dated June 16, 2026, the mission confirmed that the tickets—secured through presidential intervention—were shared among members of the Ghanaian community in Canada to enable them to cheer the national team at the tournament.
The High Commission said the distribution was carried out through recognised Ghanaian community associations and a random selection process involving registered applicants drawn from an email database compiled by the mission.
It also acknowledged the support of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, describing their assistance as instrumental in making the initiative possible.
According to the statement, while the process was carefully managed to ensure fairness and transparency, demand far exceeded the limited number of tickets available.
As a result, not all applicants were successful, a situation the mission described as unfortunate but unavoidable. However, it commended the Ghanaian community in Canada for their patience, cooperation, and understanding throughout the process.
The High Commission added that if additional tickets become available, they will be distributed using the same framework through Ghanaian community associations and a verified database of applicants.
As Ghana’s World Cup campaign gets underway, the mission urged diaspora supporters to continue rallying behind the Black Stars, emphasizing unity, patriotism, and national pride as the team competes on the global stage.
