Former NEIP boss freed on gh¢500,000 bail after false publication claims

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been granted bail of GH¢500,000 after his arrest for allegedly publishing false information.

As a result, he will no longer appear in court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, as earlier planned.

His lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, confirmed that Mr. Nkansah will continue to cooperate with investigators while the case is being examined.

The former NEIP boss was picked up by the National Intelligence Bureau after claiming on radio that there were irregularities in the award of government-sponsored scholarships for studies abroad. Authorities say investigations into those claims are still ongoing.

According to his legal team, the Bureau initially intended to prosecute him but changed course after further discussions. Mr. Nkansah later provided contact details of the individual who allegedly gave him the information, and investigators have since reached out to that person.

His lawyer also explained that when he was asked to report again, Mr. Nkansah was in Kumasi caring for his sick father at the KNUST Hospital.

  • Following a review, the NIB granted him bail with two sureties who must be government employees. Officers are currently verifying the sureties’ properties and residences as part of the bail conditions.
