The Methodist Church Ghana joins the global community to observe International Epilepsy Awareness Day, drawing attention to the experiences of those living with epilepsy, a condition often met with misconceptions and stigma.
In Ghana, epilepsy continues to be surrounded by misconceptions, which contribute to social exclusion and marginalization. Many people living with the condition face barriers in education, employment, and community participation, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and education.
This year’s theme, “Turning Stories into Actions,” calls for a shift from awareness to meaningful support. The Church emphasizes the importance of amplifying the voices of those affected, challenging myths, and fostering inclusive communities that prioritize care, understanding, and empathy.
Observance of the day encourages individuals, families, and institutions to take proactive steps from promoting access to medical care to creating safe and supportive environments so that people living with epilepsy are not marginalized or discriminated against.
By transforming awareness into tangible actions, the Methodist Church Ghana seeks to inspire society to embrace inclusivity and ensure that epilepsy is met with compassion, support, and understanding rather than fear and stigma.
