The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev Prof Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has described leadership failure as the main challenge facing Ghana and has called on church leaders to play a meaningful role in changing the situation.
He made the remarks at the induction service of the Connexional Guild Officers held at the Bethel Methodist Society, Aplaku, Accra, on January 11, 2026.
The Presiding Bishop noted that Ghana’s current difficulties are not due to a lack of resources but are largely the result of poor leadership, mismanagement, and the misuse of the country’s wealth.
He noted that these challenges have affected many areas of national development and continue to slow progress.
He urged the newly inducted Connexional Guild Officers to approach their roles with humility and a strong sense of duty, reminding them that leadership in the church is a call to serve God’s people and not an opportunity for personal gain.
He encouraged them to lead without hidden agendas and to remain focused on the needs of those they serve.
Touching on the theme of the induction service, which centres on leadership and purpose, the Presiding Bishop stressed that Christian leadership is rooted in service. He explained that leadership within the church must reflect the values of compassion, sacrifice, and commitment to others.
He challenged the Methodist Connexional Guild Officers to lead by example, uphold moral standards, and use their positions to bring positive change to the church and society. He encouraged them to see their induction as a responsibility to make a difference in the lives of people and in the work of the church.
The Presiding Bishop concluded by wishing the officers well and urging them to serve faithfully and diligently throughout their term of office.
