Presiding Bishop urges proper use of school assets, emphasises responsible stewardship

The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has urged school authorities and institutional leaders to ensure that resources entrusted to them are used strictly for their intended purposes, stressing that responsible stewardship is a core Christian value.

He made the call at the Wesley Towers in Accra, where the presentation ceremony took place, as the 1972 Year Group of the Wesley Girls’ OGA donated a 33-seater bus to Wesley Girls’ High School. While expressing appreciation for the generosity of the donors, the Presiding Bishop used the occasion to caution against the misuse of institutional property.

According to him, assets such as school buses are often diverted for private or unrelated activities, defeating the purpose for which they were donated. He noted that such practices amount to poor stewardship and undermine accountability within institutions.

Addressing the school authorities directly, the Presiding Bishop stressed the need for clear directives and strict supervision to ensure that the bus serves the academic and administrative needs of the school. He explained that institutional resources must not be treated as personal property, especially in a society where misuse of public assets has become common.

He further emphasised that as a Christian institution, Wesley Girls’ High School is expected to make decisions that align with faith-based principles, integrity, and discipline. Proper use and maintenance of donated assets, he said, are essential to sustaining trust and encouraging future support from stakeholders.
